December
The third grade class was able to take a trip to the Independence Land Lab on December 20th. They were able to spend the morning hiking, observing the Land Lab animals, and making bird feeders. We would like to thank Mr. Maretka and the members of the Biology Society who came to show us around.

Third Graders Harvest their Vegetables!
Last spring, as second graders, students planted root vegetables with the Independence Garden Club. They planted potatoes, carrots, radishes and beets! The I.G.C. and families who volunteered took care of the gardens over the summer. Vegetables were ready to be reaped when we returned to school! Students, once again assisted by the I.G.C. members, picked the vegetables that survived our hot summer. We also had the opportunity to talk to Bob a former farmer and new member of the I.G.C. The students loved listening to his stories of living on a farm in Southern Ohio for many years.
Students truly enjoyed taking part in the harvest. We shared the crop among all third graders. I was excited when many of the students shared with me how their families prepared the food and ate it later that week! Check out more photos below.
